Seniors try snowshoes for healthy activity - Brainerd Dispatch MN Thu, 02 Feb 2012 22:17:53 +0000
|
Senior citizens may want more snow as there is one more activity for them to do in the Brainerd lakes area. Snowshoeing. The Lakes Area Senior Activity Center was blessed Thursday with 20 pairs of snowshoes that were dontated to the center from UCare. Members of the senior center will be able to check out the snowshoes anytime — day or night or over a weekend. "This is so exciting," said DeAnn Barry, director of the senior center. "This will generate another activity for the seniors to help them stay healthy and active. As long as we live in Minnesota we might as well be outside. "I think the snowshoes will be popular among our members. And the shoes have poles with them that will help the seniors with their balance." Barry said the center will start a snowshoe club and will plan a few events for seniors to get together to snowshoe. Sharon Notch, UCare medicare marketing representative for Central Minnesota, said UCare donated 100 pairs of snowshoes to nonprofit organizations in the state, including 10 pairs to the Hallett Community Center in Crosby. "We have a good relationship with the senior centers and this is a good deal," said Notch. "Snowshoeing is a good activity for seniors." |

(See the tags below for abbreviated titles of each song in this episode, in the order they are presented.) There is, as usual, Guess the Name of the Song and an extemporaneous prayer. We close with the lovely old spiritual, "Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen" and our usual Daily Michael goodbye song medley. Enjoy! :) WHAT IS THE DAILY MICHAEL AND WHO WILL BENEFIT? The Daily Michael is a musical and literary program for persons of all ages, children through senior citizens. Elders will especially love the great, old songs, but all will be uplifted by good poems, stories and music. This unique offering is for anyone who'd like to have a special, warm, daily musical/literary companion. It's great for bedside computers or small groups.
